Tom Verbelen

Dr. T. Verbelen graduated as MD in 2009 at the University of Leuven (Belgium). During his residency in General Surgery he spent 2 years in Roeselare (Belgium), 2 years in Almelo (The Netherlands) and 1 year in Leuven. He also spent two years in the lab of experimental cardiac surgery at the University of Leuven. Since August 2015 he is fully committed to Cardiac Surgery and after having graduated as General Surgeon in 2016, a one year fellowship in cardiac surgery in Leuven followed. Since August 2017 he is a full member of staff of the department of cardiac surgery of the University Hospitals Leuven. On October 20th 2017 he defendend his PhD entitled: "Right ventricular mechanical support for pulmonary arterial hypertension. The low flow concept."

His main areas of interest are: ECMO, RVAD, pulmonary hypertension (including pulmonary endarterectomy surgery), and mitral- and tricuspid valve surgery.
