Gerry Capatos

Dr Capatos is one of the first practitioners to encourage ECMO use in the ICU and emergency departments in Africa. He was able to show that early use of ECMO in critically ill patients including HIV patients with PJP pneumonia had favourable results. Early extubation and mobilisation was part of his team's protocol. His interest at present is using ECMO as a ''third inotrope'' in patients with fulminant vasoplegia.
