I am Professor of Surgery,Director of Cardiac Critical Care and the ECMO program at Thomas Jefferson University since 2010. I am a trained transplant surgeon by trade and performed with others the 1st distant heart-lung procurement in 1985, as well as the 1st CF transplant in the same year while a Mayo scholar in Papworth Hospital in England. My mentors were Mr. Terrence English and John Wallwork whom I recently met at the ISHLT meeting this year. In recent years, I have developed joint models of ICU's between surgeon and intensivists to support and care for all Cardiovascular patients. Extensive training of mid-level providers, nurses and physicians has evolved to teach the care of transplant, VAD, TAH and ECMO patients. Guidelines and evidence-based algorithms have been established thru these processes. Our practice has both clinical and laboratory research built into its' activities. We welcome numerous visitors and other clinicans to our institution from a variety of countries each year.
