Ruud Koster
Dr Rudolph W. Koster (1946) was clinical cardiologist at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, now retired since 2014 from clinical work. Currently, he is member of the scientific committee of the Netherlands Resuscitation Council. He served as member of the Board of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and chair of the Working Group on Basic Life Support. He has participated in the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) since 2005 and as co-chair for the ILCOR Task Force Basic Life Support in the 2010 Consensus on Science and Treatment Recommendations (COSTR) process. He was chair of the writing committee of the ERC BLS Guidelines 2010 and member in 2015.
He supervises a large ongoing registry of OHCA in the Netherlands (ARREST, AmsteRdam REsuscitation STudies) with many publications since 1997. His research focusses on resuscitation for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and the use of the AED. Besides this work, he studied the safety of mechanical chest compression devices in a randomized trial. Now he participates in a pre-hospital ECMO study in cardiac arrest.
