After graduating 1st Medical School of Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic in 1997, Dr. Ivan Netuka completed his vascular and subsequently cardiovascular surgery residency at Homolka Hospital and the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine at Prague in 2005. In 2009 he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis in cardiovascular pathophysiology. Last years he served as a Vice-Chair of the Department, and in 2017 he has been assigned as a Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, IKEM, Prague. In 2014 he has been appointed an Associate Professor of Cardiac Surgery at 1st Medical School at Prague. Dr. Netuka has authored and published over 80 peer-reviewed book chapters and manuscripts focusing predominantly on all aspects of advanced heart failure, cardiac transplantation, surgical treatment modalities and alternatives to transplantation with a special focus on mechanical circulatory assistance. In 2014 he has been elected as a member of the Executive Committee of EUROMACS/EACTS. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for numerous international professional cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery journals. Among his international longer-term professional assignments, Norway, Germany, India and most recently in 2016 Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School should be mentioned.
